The stillness on the sidewalk

20121018-102741.jpg It’s fall, and that means leaves, even in North Carolina.  Not the waist deep kind, at least not in my neighborhood, which was one of the reasons for leaving New England to come here.  But there are a few nice ones, just lying on the sidewalk waiting for me to capture them and start experimenting.  I haven’t done much with leaves in the past, so I’m going to be trying out some treatments of them and see what works.  The leaf is red, but I changed the sidewalk color from gray to gold, just for giggles, in Iris PhotoSuite.  In spite of Iris’ penchant for rotating pictures on its own, it does have a nice suite of effects and editing capabilities.  After hours of applying layers in PaintFX, it can be very refreshing so use something straightforward like Iris.  And it can spur the creativity to work with a different tool, as I’m finding out with even such a pedestrian subject (please excuse the pun).
